Dear friends and family of Baraka!

We are thrilled to share the beginnings of the 6th year of Baraka residential community as we embark on the first months of this transformative year-long program. Baraka, which means “blessing” in Hebrew and Arabic, is more than just a place; it is a training ground for members aged 18 to 25 to foster personal growth, professional development, character building, and spiritual exploration.

The table is one of the most important spaces in Baraka, here we eat, laugh, cry, and share life on a daily basis.

Every Tuesday and Thursday evening, we come together as a community to engage in group activities, discussions, and workshops. We sometimes eat with friends from the school community and sometimes we opt to use these evenings as space to grow the relationships we have between each other. These gatherings serve as the cornerstone of our program, providing a platform for members to share their stories, insights, and dreams

This October we’ve had 6 birthdays to celebrate! Peta (the community baker) has had her work cut out for her!

We have hosted the religion and ethics department and discussed how we might partner with the school. Been introduced to great art (Michelangelo’s David) by  Zuzka Kotvanova (a past Baraka worker). And Ralph Gatti inspired us with his stories and pushed us in our endeavor to restart the school coffee shop.

The NAE department comes to visit (and Baska does some gymnastics).

We also had an evening next to a campfire (before the winter sets in)

Mornings in Baraka begin with communal breakfasts, where participants exchange ideas, share dreams, and build connections.

Memorable breakfast out in the garden, hosted by Mato and Ado!

Our First Weekend - Soiree

This year we had the joy of hosting the Soiree on the same night as the parliamentary vote, and since Bilgym was an official voting location, we had to squeeze all our amazing guests into Baraka. Overall the night was filled with laughter, good conversation, delicious food, and beautiful music (thanks to one of our guests!). We were able to introduce our friends and family to our home for the next nine months.

Internships: Grand Re-Opening of the School Cafe

This year Barakans are part of one of two internship teams – the school club team (Art Club, Volleyball Club, Team Club, etc.) and the Cafe Team! The Weekend before Fall Break, the Baraka members successfully led and launched the Eagle and Child, which will be open each Friday this upcoming year. Check out our Instagram for more updates!

We wish to express our heartfelt gratitude to all of you, our friends and family, for your support in making this program possible. Your encouragement, belief in our mission, and financial contributions have enabled us to create a space where young adults can grow, learn, and evolve into compassionate, capable, and driven individuals.Thank you for being a part of this journey with us!

Yours,

Baraka 6
